Grandma’s Pancakes: These 7 recipes will help with heartache and cravings

After a walk in the rain. On a lazy Sunday morning in bed. As a quick lunch. As a comforter, rewarder, happy maker. We can think of so many moments for a pancake that we could fill whole pages with just that. The dish is simple, made in no time and tastes as good as any:m. The pancakes are rightly a fixed meal in almost every kitchen planner.

But no matter how many times we have prepared them ourselves – we still remember the ones from grandma the most. Juicy yet crispy, golden brown in melted form, with a pinch of sugar or simply on its own. It didn’t take much more than Grandma’s pancakes to be happy. Why does the (grand)parents’ dishes always taste different? The simple answer probably lies in copious amounts of butter and sugar, the more romantic in a pinch of home feeling.

In fact, every generation has its own way of preparing things. Sometimes modern helpers such as kitchen appliances are added, then again hip sugar substitutes and superfoods. There’s no question that today’s pancakes made from buckwheat, spelt or coconut blossom sugar still taste good. Slowly but surely, however, they have morphed into a whole different dish. That serves its purpose. However, it sometimes makes us think nostalgically of the good old days when pancakes were still called pancakes and fat and sugar were not saved, and not even a thought was wasted.

Not only the quantities have changed, but also the constellations. Instead of jam, peanut butter is on the table today, butter is replaced by almond butter and brown sugar. In order to remember how the good old pancakes were actually served in the old days, we had to rummage through our memories. But once we found the memory door, more and more recipes kept pouring out – yes, there was the rolled pancake version. And the ones with schnapps that you were never allowed to taste as a child! Well, how good that we are adults today and can eat whatever we want. We suspect – this week it will be mostly pancakes.
