The expensive scented candle has almost burned down again – annoying! We’ll tell you 5 tips that grandma knew to help your candles last longer.

Especially in the dark winter – and at Christmas time – candles should not be missing for the contemplative mood. The warm flickering light quickly creates a feel-good atmosphere at its finest. And when our favorite scented candle is burning and the smell fills the room, we often feel a little more relaxed. It’s just a shame that good scented candles can be quite expensive and sometimes burn down quickly – especially if we use them every day. With these 5 tips, which our grandmothers already knew, you can extend the life of your favorite candles.

Grandma’s tips: This is how your scented candles last longer

1. Avoid drafts

It may be obvious, but it accounts for a lot more than most would suspect. If your candle is standing in a draft, it will either burn much faster or unevenly – both of which are easy to avoid: simply place your favorite candle in a windless place and you will enjoy it for longer.

2. Sprinkle salt

While this tip only works after you’ve used your candle for the first time, it’s pretty promising. After extinguishing, simply sprinkle a small amount of household salt around the wick while the candle wax is still liquid. The next time the candle burns slower.

3. Shorten the wick

A long wick creates a large, usually very restless flame, which reduces the lifespan of your candle. To counteract this, it is best to shorten the wick to about one centimeter. You will notice that you can use the candle a few times more often.

4. Note burning time

Better to let it burn short than long? Maybe. But still, make sure you don’t put out your candle too early. The wax on the surface should definitely be liquid, otherwise an indentation will quickly form around the wick and the candle will then burn unevenly. This also shortens the life of your favorite candle.

5. Don’t blow!

Instead of blowing, use a special burner to extinguish your candle. You can also use any container you like, it just has to be big enough to put it over the candle without any problems. That should increase the burning time.
