According to media reports, at least 38 people were killed when a grandstand collapsed at a Jewish festival in northern Israel. The accident happened during celebrations on the occasion of the Jewish holiday Lag Baomer in Meron.
At first there was talk of 28 fatalities. Rescue workers have now confirmed at least ten more deaths. More than 100 people were injured, many of them life-threatening.

According to the rescue workers, around 50 people were injured, some of them seriously. Many injured people were taken to hospitals by helicopter. The police blocked the access roads.
