A Chinese source suggests that NVIDIA is about to lower the price of its RTX 4080s. Currently, the card is trading (theoretically) from 1,399 euros in France.

Would NVIDIA have aimed too high in terms of pricing? The firm was careful not to admit it itself, but the announcement of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX seems to have changed the game. According to a Chinese source relayed on Twitter and taken up by the specialized site WccftechNVIDIA is preparing to lower the price of its RTX 4080s.

An RTX 4080 soon a little more affordable?

This price revision would take place from mid-December to allow the card to suffer less in the face of competition from the latest Radeon 7000s from AMD, which are more affordable and expected over the same period. As a reminder, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX was announced at $999 excluding taxes across the Atlantic. This price should however be much higher on custom models, a fortiori in France where the dollar/euro conversion (often against us) and the addition of VAT will not fail to inflate prices.

Anyway, and as pointed out Wccftech, the price of the RTX 4080 surprised when it was announced. It is indeed the 80-series RTX that has suffered the largest price increase. But this exceptional situation seems to pose problems for NVIDIA: the card would struggle to find its audience, so much so that stocks would not flow satisfactorily from retailers.

Good news for the RTX 4070 Ti too

If an official price drop is confirmed for the RTX 4080, it’s a safe bet that the RTX 4070 Ti, expected in early 2023, will also sell for less than initially expected. As a reminder, the latter should take over most of the technical specifications and the price of the RTX 4080 12 GB whose launch NVIDIA had finally canceled and initially expected at 899 dollars.

It now remains to be seen what the amount of the rebate potentially concocted by NVIDIA would be. Logically, the objective of such a price readjustment would be to ensure that the RTX 4080 arrives in front of the RX 7900 XTX… at a price of around 1,000 or 1,100 dollars, compared to 1,199 dollars at present .
