LONDON (Reuters) – Climate activist Greta Thunberg pleaded not guilty in a British court on Wednesday after being arrested last month during a protest in London.

The 20-year-old young woman was arrested by police on October 17 while she and dozens of other demonstrators blocked the entrances to a hotel where a conference on oil and gas was being held.

Greta Thunberg has become known for her activism since she began organizing weekly protests in Sweden in 2018, and now travels around the world to speak at rallies or protests.

She was charged by London police on October 18 and released on bail. If found guilty, she risks a fine of up to 2,500 pounds (2,870 euros).

Before her arrest in Britain, she had already been detained by police or thrown out of protests in Sweden, Norway and Germany.
