Great Britain has recorded the highest temperature since records began

At London’s Heathrow Airport, 40.2 degrees Celsius were measured at midday, as the Met Office weather service announced on Tuesday according to preliminary data.

One heat record follows the next in Great Britain

Shortly before that, a British heat record of 39.1 degrees was set in Charlwood in the English county of Surrey – but this lasted little more than an hour. It cannot be ruled out that the Heathrow record could be broken again on Tuesday. Up to 42 degrees were expected in parts of England. Tuesday night had also turned out to be the warmest so far.

Public life was disrupted in large parts of the country at the beginning of the week: schools remained closed, and some shops and restaurants closed. Rail traffic only progressed with long delays or even failed completely because the infrastructure was not so high temperatures is designed.
