Great Britain: Stronger-than-expected rebound in retail sales in May


PARIS, June 21 (Reuters) – Retail sales in the United Kingdom rebounded more strongly than expected month-on-month in May, official data published on Friday showed.

On a monthly basis, these sales increased by 2.9% in May after a contraction of 1.8% in April (revised from -2.3%), announced the National Statistics Office (ONS).

Economists polled by Reuters forecast a rebound limited to 1.5%.

On an annual basis, retail sales increased by 1.3% compared to an expected decline of 0.9% and a decline of 2.3% (revised from -2.7%) the previous month. (Written by Claude Chendjou, edited by Blandine Hénault)
