Great New Year’s balance – Some celebrated, others were in constant use

Shortly after 11 p.m. it was “Nothing works anymore”. The New Year’s Trail was busy. The New Year was celebrated for hours. While there were no major incidents in the city, the blue light organizations were in constant use elsewhere. We have the big New Year’s balance sheet.

For two years, the Viennese had to do without the popular New Year’s Eve trail because of Corona. Apparently the longing was great. Because 800,000 people absolutely wanted to celebrate the new year together and put Vienna’s city center in a positive state of emergency for twelve hours. For example, Michael N.: “We came all the way from Salzburg to celebrate here with some Viennese friends.” The numerous guests started the new year peacefully, cheerfully and in a good mood. The mild weather certainly also made a certain contribution. The city was full. At 11.15 p.m. the organiser, the City of Vienna Marketing, appealed to stop coming. Because the New Year’s Eve trail was fully booked. According to the police, the 2022 edition in Vienna went off without any significant incidents despite the onslaught. Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig, who was impressed by the organization himself on site, is also pleased: “Thank you very much to the police and all other emergency services such as the fire brigade, ambulance and Samaritan association for the smooth process!” By the way, there was nothing from the nightly party in the morning to see more. From 3 a.m. the orange angels of the MA48 took over the command and clean up the city of Vienna again. Garbage accumulates on average on the New Year’s Eve trail. But in the morning, thanks to the hard-working MA 48, there was nothing to be seen of it. Blue light balance: 3146 missions on New Year’s Eve As expected, the first New Year’s Eve “after” Corona in the federal capital was really busy. Which was felt first and foremost by the Viennese emergency services. From December 31 to January 1, a total of 4,341 emergency calls were received in the state police control center alone. 1902 times the uniformed actually had to move out. Noise pollution, damage to property (detonated cigarette machines, telephone booths), illegal ignition of pyrotechnics – these are the main reasons for use. And it also became dangerous for those in uniform several times. In the Mitterhofsiedlung in Floridsdorf, the officers were literally under fire – young people masked with balaclavas and scarves fired pyrotechnic objects at police officers. At the Praterstern, an Afghan threw firecrackers at the uniformed men – who were prepared to flee. A total of 131 reports and 24 organ mandates were issued and 87 kilos of pyrotechnics were taken out of circulation.Rescue had a lot to do. Among other things, two young victims in Döbling and Meidling suffered serious injuries to their hands. In both cases “thanks” dangerous firecrackers. The most positive report from the rescue service: even before the New Year’s Eve celebrations actually started, a tourist from Germany collapsed lifeless on the open road in Alsergrund. Resuscitated! Small fires for the fire brigade The professional fire brigade had to be called out a total of 200 times. Fortunately, mostly “only” because of small fires. A minibus went up in flames in Favoriten for an unknown reason.
