Great success – Alphorn Festival climbed Katschberg for the twelfth time

Impressive sounds could be heard at dizzy heights on Sunday. Alphorn and sage players met for the twelfth time on the Katschberg.

Musicians from Austria and Bavaria packed up their instruments on Sunday and made the pilgrimage to the “Alphorn and Wise Men’s Meeting” on the Katschberg. Already in the early morning the sounds of the alphorns could be heard. The path to the Gamskogelhütte led over the Herzerlpass up to 1850 meters above sea level. The melodies of the individual music groups sounded along the route. Pastor Josef Hörner celebrated a field mass at the top. The participants of the alphorn meeting offered the musical framework – how could it be otherwise. After the service, there was a proper play in the Gamskogelhütte in a splendid atmosphere and the alphorn was duly honored. There were almost 40 alphorns, plus about 20 brass bands and other musicians.” Despite the adverse weather, the event attracted a large number of spectators in front of a magnificent backdrop. The date for the coming year has already been fixed, says Peitler. Cees and Erick were also there. The two Dutchmen discovered their fascination with the alphorn on a trip a few years ago. They say: “We made the horns ourselves. We’ll definitely be there again next year, in the meantime we’re practicing at home in Holland.”
