ATHENS (Reuters) – Greece will extend the tax rebate on non-road diesel for another year to support its farmers who are demanding lower energy costs and rapid compensation after severe floods in September, the government announced on Friday. Greek Prime Minister.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis told parliament that this measure would cost the state 82 million euros in 2024 and promised other measures to appease farmers’ anger.
The latter have set up roadblocks in the center and north of the country, like their counterparts in several other European countries such as France.
They threatened to intensify their mobilization if the government did not release aid to combat rising energy costs and the impact of climate change.
PPC, the country’s leading electricity company, will offer a 10% discount on electricity prices for Greek farmers from May to September.
