Greeks rage against Gibraltar
Weghorst opens the door to the European Championships for the Netherlands

Two penalties and a goal from a Bundesliga striker: With their win against Ireland, the Dutch took an important step towards the European Football Championship in Germany. Greece, which has the same number of points, fulfills its duty against Gibraltar – but has one more game in its account.
Thanks to Bundesliga striker Wout Weghorst, the Netherlands have taken another step towards the European Football Championship in Germany: Bond coach Ronald Koeman’s team won the European Championship qualification 2-1 (1-1) in Ireland on Sunday evening. Greece, the closest competitor for second place, easily won 5-0 (2-0) against Gibraltar.
Adam Idah (4th minute) initially gave the hosts the lead in Dublin with a hand penalty, a few minutes later Cody Gakpo (19th) also equalized with a penalty. Substitute Weghorst (56th) from TSG Hoffenheim finally secured the victory. The Dutch are third in Group B behind the Greeks, who have the same points, and the sovereign leaders France.
Greece didn’t have much trouble with outsiders Gibraltar. Dimitrios Pelkas (9th) and two braces from ex-Stuttgart player Konstantinos Mavropanos (23rd/82nd) and Georgios Masouras (70th/90th+1) ensured the success. Like the Dutch, the Greeks now have nine points, but have already played one more game.
