The decoration at your own wedding party can easily be made environmentally friendly and reusable. We have five decorative items for you that you don’t have to do without!

There are thousands of reasons to live more sustainably, and it’s more important now than ever. In this way, in addition to the actual everyday life, we can also make events such as weddings more environmentally friendly. Nature always produces treasures with which you can easily make beautiful decorative items yourself. It doesn’t have to be without decoration because of plastic waste, unnecessary support for CO2 emissions or the like. We have five wedding decorations for you that couldn’t be more sustainable.

Basically, what you can borrow, buy second-hand or make yourself is a particularly environmentally friendly way of decorating your wedding celebration – the most sustainable is anything that can be reused.

On the one hand, it is worth making the wedding sustainable, as this saves costs – second-hand or DIY items not only save packaging waste, but also money. You also make a good contribution to protecting the environment, which also makes you role models. And who knows, maybe the guests want to design their future wedding in a very sustainable way with natural materials and DIY decorations?

DIY confetti without paper and plastic

Receiving the bride and groom with confetti after the ceremony is typical for weddings. Confetti is also popular as a table decoration. But why waste plastic waste and paper when you can easily do it yourself? Everything you need: dry or dried leaves from the foliage and a punch, punch pliers or hole punch. With this you can easily punch out sustainable confetti from the dried leaves.

There is no need to do without flowers

What would a wedding be without flowers? When it comes to plants, many people don’t even consider that they are not sustainable, but there are also a few things to consider. Conventional flowers are often imported from other countries, creating a lot of CO2 emissions. In addition, there is the high energy and water consumption for the preservation of the flowers. For a wedding that is as sustainable as possible, care should be taken to ensure that the flowers are regional. Flowers can also be picked from nature or from the field for decoration.

In order to keep the bridal bouquet and the flower decoration for a longer period of time, you can also dry them yourself. Simply hang the flowers – upside down – in a dry and cool place.

The romantic candlelight should not be missing

Candles are a must for a cozy wedding atmosphere. Especially when it comes to table decorations, they are indispensable and you don’t have to do without them at a sustainable wedding. The problem with conventional candles is that they contain the raw materials paraffin and stearin. Paraffin is derived from petroleum, which is both very polluting and a threat to biodiversity. Huge areas of rainforest are illegally cut down in Asia to make stearin, which consists of vegetable or animal fats. In addition, the aluminum on tea lights or wick holders is harmful to the environment due to packaging waste and the production of aluminum.

A better alternative? Beeswax, rapeseed or soy candles. They are made from plant-based and natural raw materials and burn even longer! Stick candles can be an eye-catcher in the table decoration in pretty empty bottles – a creative alternative to conventional candlesticks.

Practical herbal table decoration becomes a guest gift

Instead of expensive flowers and vases on the table, old disposable jars, bottles or jam jars are suitable as vases, and dried flowers and herbs. Lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus or thyme not only look beautiful in a bouquet, but also give the room a nice scent. Guests can then take them home, dry them and use them for cooking – simply practical.

Natural name tags

All guests have their chosen seats at the wedding dinner. Instead of buying place signs, you can also collect beautiful stones from nature, either paint them or just leave them natural and write their names on them. A great decoration that the guests can continue to use as a table decoration and that will remind them of your wedding for a long time.
