He wrote screenplays for famous films such as “Against Every Rule” or “Harriet”. US author Gregory Allen Howard is dead.
The film world mourns the loss of Gregory Allen Howard (1952-2023): The American screenwriter and producer died in Miami on January 27 at the age of 70 after a short illness. His spokesman did The Hollywood Reporter confirms. Among other things, the screenplays of the films “Against Every Rule” (2000) and “Harriet – The Road to Freedom” (2019) came from Howard’s pen.
Gregory Allen Howard was born in August 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia. After attending college at Princeton and earning a degree in American history, the American moved to Los Angeles in his mid-20s to start his writing career.
Cooperation with various Hollywood stars
In the years that followed, Howard worked as a freelance writer and contributed to a number of television shows, including the 1990s FOX series True Colors. Stage plays were also part of Howard’s work.
Then followed two projects that helped Howard to great fame: such as the screenplay for a biographical film of the famous boxer Muhammad Ali (1942-2016) and the script for the sports film “Against Every Rule” based on real events with Denzel Washington (68) . The latter became a box office hit and grossed more than 100 million US dollars. One of Howard’s last projects was the historical film “Harriet – The Way to Freedom” with Janelle Monáe (37), which was nominated for several Oscars.
