On the occasion of the opening of the Maison Grégory Lemarchal in Reuil-Malmaison on June 16, Pierre, the father of Grégory Lemarchal quoted his son’s last words in the Journal du Dimanche. A poignant testimony.
Died of cystic fibrosis on April 30, 2007, Gregory Lemarchal leaves an indelible memory in the memory of viewers of the star Academy, which he won in 2004, but also many French people. Carried away by the disease at only 24 years old, the young man showed a fighting spirit still praised by his relatives. For fifteen years, his parents and his former companion, Karine Ferriare mobilizing to continue their fight against the ravages of genetic disease, in particular through theGregory Lemarchal Association. On June 16, the Lemarchals inaugurated an establishment in Reuil-Malmaison, in the Hauts-de-Seine, intended to accommodate patients with cystic fibrosis to help them in their recovery. On this occasion, Pierre Lemarchal, Grégory’s father, agreed to deliver some unpublished details to the Sunday newspaper on the last moments of his son.
Hospitalized in April 2007, the young singer had to undergo a lung transplant emergency. In the absence of a graft, his state of health deteriorated rapidly. The day before his death, April 29, 2007, while those close to him – his parents and his sister leslie – are gathered at his bedside, Grégory Lemarchal pronounces his last words. He then turns to “a friend“, relates Pierre, without specifying who it is. The JDD assumes that this mysterious stranger could be Helene Segara, to whom the artist had sent an SMS to inform him of his condition. “He said: ‘Above all, tell them never to give up. He was always thinking of others, that was the message he wanted to convey to all those who suffer from this disease“, reveals the father. But the very last words out of the mouth of Grégory Lemarchal are even more heartbreaking. Before being plunged into a coma, the interpreter of “Write the story“ manages to articulate:Do not forbid yourself as long as possible!“. A sentence full of hope for patients with cystic fibrosis that his mother, Laurence, had mentioned last May.
Maison Grégory Lemarchal, a project that is finally seeing the light of day
Founded on June 7, 2007 by Pierre, Laurence and Leslie Lemarchal, theGregory Lemarchal Association revitalized cystic fibrosis research. The Gregory Lemarchal House is the last stone added to the edifice, and offers a reception of patients unique in Europe. Made up of two houses and D’a training room where it is possible to do physical exercise, the first establishment of its kind allows residents to experience their illness in better conditions: “Because better care contributes to improving the quality of lifewe must accompany these young adults outside the hospital and help them to feel better in their minds and in their bodies, get out of “all medical” to focus on the human.“, explains the association’s website. The choice of Reuil-Malmaison as the setting for this place of care, which was to open in 2018, is not trivial. As indicated by Grégory’s parents, the young man lived in this city in the west of Paris. A symbol that further proves how proud the couple is of their son’s career: “[…] he went all the way and he was right“, concludes Pierre Lemarchal.
