Gregory Sierra died of complications from cancer. The US star made a name for himself mainly through appearances in series.

US actor Gregory Sierra died on January 4th at the age of 83 after suffering from cancer. His widow has now confirmed this to the news channel "CNN". "He was a brilliant actor and he was wonderful, my heart was broken in millions of pieces. He fought cancer for a long time, now he just couldn't go on," she said. Sierra made a name for himself in the 1970s and 1980s through appearances in series.

Gregory Sierra was originally from New York City but moved to California to kickstart his acting career. He gained greater fame through his role as Det. Chano Amenguale, which he played in the first two seasons (1975-1976) of the television series "Barney Miller".

In "Sanford and Son" (1972-1975) he also played the recurring role of Julio Fuentes. Sierra later had guest appearances in "Miami Vice", "MacGyver" and "The Prince of Bel Air". His films include "Papillon" (1973) and "Flammendes Inferno" (1974). Sierra was last seen in a film in 2018.
