Earthquake in the universe of Grey’s Anatomy: Krista Vernoff, the showrunner and producer of the medical series and its spin-off Station 19, has just announced that she will leave her post at the end of the seasons currently broadcast in the United States , according to the exclusive information of Deadline.
“It has been an immense privilege to lead Grey’s Anatomy for the past six years and Station 19 for the past four.“said Krista Vernoff to our colleagues at Deadline. “The passion of fans and the impact these series have had on hearts and minds cannot be underestimated.”
“The talent of the actors in both series, as well as that of the two writing teams, is second to none – and these teams create magic week after week. I will be forever grateful for the trust of Shonda Rhimesand for the support of Disney and ABC.”
“The last time I left Grey’s Anatomy, I was gone for seven seasons, and the show was still on the air when Shonda called me to take over the reins. So I’m not going to say my ‘goodbye’, because that would be too bittersweet. I say to you: ‘See you in seven seasons’.”
After having worked on the first seven seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, Krista Vernoff made her comeback in the medical series as a producer and showrunner at the start of season 14, in 2017. She also took over the controls of Station 19, the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off.
The screenwriter had a resounding impact on both series, offering viewers many episodes with strong societal topics. She also managed to double the audiences of Station 19, a virtually impossible task in a context of constant decline in ratings in favor of streaming platforms.

Krista Vernoff will therefore leave Grey’s Anatomy at the end of the last episode of season 19, and Station 19, at the end of season 6. For the moment, no showrunner has been announced to take over as head of the two series.
