A popular doctor died a tragic serial death in a crossover episode of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19". Warning, spoilers!

Again a popular character in the hospital series "Grey's Anatomy" had to die the tragic serial death. In the two-hour crossover event broadcast on Thursday in the USA with the offshoot "Station 19", viewers already learned that the series life of a long-time permanent member of the cast ends forever. Warning, spoiler alert!

Dr. Andrew DeLuca, played by Canadian-Italian actor Giacomo Gianniotti (31), is stabbed and succumbs to serious injuries despite several emergency operations. Shortly after the broadcast, Gianniotti tweeted: "There are so many things I could tell, but all I can think of is thank you." He had the role of Dr. DeLuca loved and it was a great honor for him to tell his story.

Gianniotti will not, however, completely disappear from the "Grey's Anatomy" orbit. As early as February, he revealed that he will also appear as the director of the hit series in the future. He made his directorial debut on February 16 with the episode "Sorry Doesn't Always Make It Right", a throwback to the Diana Ross song of the same name. Previously, Gianniotti played the assistant doctor Dr. Andrew DeLuca.
