Kate Walsh made her last guest appearance on Grey’s Anatomy in 2012. Now her character, Dr. Addison Montgomery back on the series.

Big surprise on “Grey’s Anatomy”: Kate Walsh returns to the hospital series for season 18. The actress confirmed this in person with a short clip on the official Instagram profile of the ABC show. “That’s right: Dr. Addison Montgomery is returning to Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital. And I’m so excited to finally be home,” said the 53-year-old in the video.

Kate Walsh has been on board since season one

Walsh’s first appearance on “Grey’s Anatomy” was in the first season finale (2005). She played the gynecologist and neonatal surgeon Dr. Addison Montgomery, ex-wife of Derek Sheperd (Patrick Dempsey). She was on the main cast of the series until the end of season three. Then she got her own spin-off series “Private Practice”, which ran from 2007 to 2013. In the new episodes, Walsh will slip back into her old role – her last guest appearance was in 2012.

Season 18 “Grey’s Anatomy” premieres on September 30th in the US. It is not yet clear when the episodes will be broadcast in Germany.
