Jessica Capshaw is a mother of four. But the path to becoming a mother was not easy, as the actress has now revealed.

US actress Jessica Capshaw (47) has spoken for the first time about her miscarriage. The experience was “the most shocking and deeply sad thing ever”.

Curettage between third and fourth child

In a new episode of her “In the “Call It What It Is” podcast, which she runs with her “Grey’s Anatomy” colleague Camilla Luddington (40), Capshaw revealed the miscarriage when a listener wanted to know whether a third child was a good decision.

While Luddington said she “quite easily” knew that two children would be enough, the 47-year-old said: “I think the answer is that it’s a very personal answer.” It helps to “really, really be in touch and really, really honest with yourself and with your partner.” Since she comes from a large family, it was natural for her to have one herself. Her first three children came pretty quickly one after the other.

After that, she wanted a fourth, and her husband thought the idea was “fantastic.” “I got pregnant and was so excited. I’d never had any problems before. I was very lucky and very grateful.” But then came the shock: “Suddenly, at my appointment in the 10th week, I went for an ultrasound. I was alone, I hadn’t expected it at all, and there was no heartbeat.” She hadn’t expected that after having three healthy children. The experience was “the most shocking and deeply sad thing ever.” She also didn’t know whether she should call her husband immediately or tell him in person later. Fortunately, she had a compassionate doctor who accompanied her throughout the entire process, full of “pain” and “disappointment.”

After the miscarriage, she had to undergo a curettage. “And then life went on and I had the chance to take care of myself, my body, my relationship and my other children, and it was really incredible,” Capshaw said.

Married for 20 years

Since 2004, she has been married to entrepreneur Christopher Gavigan (50), with whom she has a son and three daughters: Luke (16), Eve (13), Poppy (12) and Josephine (8). She has appeared in films such as “Scream If You Can” and “Minority Report” (2002). Capshaw has also appeared in several series such as “Bones”, “The Practice” and “The L Word”.

She is best known for her role as pediatric surgeon Dr. Arizona Robbins in “Grey’s Anatomy”, which she returned to in the 20th season.
