Grey’s Anatomy: this episode is hated by Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey

Headliners of the indestructible series “Grey’s Anatomy”, Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey did not really appreciate the musical episode of season 7, entitled “Love, pray, sing”, and let it be known.

A medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy was broadcast for the first time on the ABC channel in 2005. The series has become, despite mixed audiences, unstoppable: 18 seasons strong, the 19th will be broadcast next October.

The series has largely contributed to making Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, respectively Meredith Gray and Derek Shepherd, stars. In a podcast titled Tell me with Ellen Pompeo, the actress evoked one of her worst memories of filming. In this case a musical episode of season 7, entitled “Love, pray, sing” (in VO: “Song Beneath The Song”).

Speaking to Patrick Dempsey, guest of the podcast, she throws to him: “Do you remember we did that awful musical number? Sorry to disrespect the person who wrote it, but I mean… With that musical, we were horrified, weren’t we? I I sang a little and I said to myself: Listen guys, I tell you right away: I can’t sing”.

“I remember saying at the time ‘I don’t want to chicken out. I want to be thorough. I want to commit, I want to try, but I’m a very bad singer” she continues. “But if you can help me sound better… I won’t be good, but I’m not going to chicken out either, so I’ll just do it.”

Dempsey wasn’t really motivated to do vocals either… “I was like, no way am I singing. It didn’t make sense to me at the time. And now when you see it, you’re like, ‘Oh my God…at least they tried it.’ “ The actress does not like the episode so much that she refused to see it.

Still, this episode decried by its headliners aroused rather mixed reactions from critics and audiences. If you saw it and remember it, what did you think of it?
