A police patrol noticed strong smoke in the area of the chimney in Gries am Brenner on a single-family house made of wood on Friday afternoon. The roof structure caught fire there for reasons that had not yet been clarified. The police sounded the alarm and notified the residents.
The fire fighting work was carried out by the Gries and Steinach fire brigades using respiratory protection. The emergency services had to remove a number of roof tiles. At around 5.15 p.m. “fire off” could be given. The roof structure was badly damaged by the fire and the fire extinguished caused considerable water damage.
Firefighters were injured
The roof was temporarily covered. The cause of the fire will be determined next week with the assistance of an expert from the state office for fire prevention. In the course of the extinguishing work, a firefighter was slightly injured in the hand. Two other helpers also had to be looked after by the rescue service. The residents of the house were unharmed.
