Grounded: The Bugs Strike Back in the Latest Update

Grounded is still expected in its final version this year, but players can already experience the garden survival game.Obsidian Entertainment in Early Access on PC or via the program Xbox Game Preview on consoles. And justly, the title today welcomes a new big update.

Grounded reminds you to embody shrunken children, who must face insects to find resources and survive. But these not-so-small beasts are obviously fed up with the update The Insects Strike Backwho will be able to take revenge and go on the offensive in different ways, as explained Microsoft :

Insects will now be able to take revenge in three different ways. First, and in Obsidian tradition, is Faction Reactivity. Insects will come to attack your base when you invade their territory too often or kill theirs. The more you annoy a particular species, the more likely it is to come knocking at your door.

Second, you will be able to choose what type of insect you want to attract with the Waft Emitter. Throw the insect body parts you harvested into this machine and the smell will spread through the garden. The corresponding insects will become enraged and want revenge. Of course, the more you fill the machine, the angrier the bugs will get, so keep that in mind and don’t just throw everything you find into the machine mindlessly.

Finally, you will find the new MIX.Rs in the garden. These reservoirs are used to mix Raw Science for Wendell’s experiments. You can also collect Raw Science by turning on the MIX.R, but this will overheat the system. Nearby insects will do everything in their power to destroy the machine, so you’ll need to defend it until the operation is complete to reap the rewards of your efforts.

On the player side, there is also something new, with new objects to build your base and defend yourself:

You will now be able to improve your armor and even choose a permanent bonus, such as a cloud of dust that escapes when you are attacked, or an increase in your resistance. Turrets have been added, such as the Pollen Turret, which will let you slow down and stun creepers when they try to destroy your base. The rock turret fires very quickly, to keep the hordes at bay. And explosive traps will sit idle until you decide to spice things up by strategically placing and triggering them.

But a decent defense alone won’t give you the edge. A new feature allows you to observe creatures, which will grant you a Creature Card. These cards contain information about insect weaknesses and resistances, summaries of how many of that type of insect you’ve killed, and more to help you on your journey. You might even get very rare golden versions of these cards, so be sure to observe your surroundings.

While base defense options, armor upgrades, and hordes of vengeful insects are the main draw of this update, you’ll also be able to find several community-requested features. From being able to rename all the boxes you keep your valuables in to being able to get rid of piles of stuff that a “friend” has thrown into the garden while “helping” you with weeds, you’ll discover a lot.

Grounded is as a reminder available on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, it is included in the Game Passthe subscription of three is to be found against €29.99 on Amazon.
