Group under pressure – Lenzing savings plan will cost 150 jobs in the main plant

How many employees will have to leave Lenzing AG as part of the austerity package? This question has been hanging over the fiber manufacturer’s workforce like the sword of Damocles for weeks. Before the board meeting on Monday, in which the social plan is to be approved, figures leaked out.

At the plant in Burgenland, 255 employees have been on short-time work since the beginning of October. Talks are underway to extend this measure beyond the turn of the year. At the same time, dark clouds are brewing over the main plant in Lenzing: Around 150 employees will probably have to leave the site in the Attersee region next year. One third is expected to be affected by natural fluctuation. The positions that have become vacant are simply not filled. However, the social plan has not yet been signed and approved. That should happen on Monday at the board meeting. In order to reduce personnel costs for workers and employees, overtime is also reduced, vacation arrears reduced and working hours reduced.
