Groupe ADP expects a return to the green this year

Groupe ADP has divided its net loss by more than four in 2021 to 248 million euros and expects a return to profits this year thanks to a resumption of air transport, the manager of Paris airports said on Wednesday.

Controlled by the French State, the group which operates a total of 29 airports in the world, achieved a turnover up 30% last year to 2.78 billion euros, still far from the 4.7 billion 2019, before the Covid-19 crisis which torpedoed the entire sector.

This shock was still heavily felt on Groupe ADP’s passenger traffic in 2021: in total its facilities welcomed 160 million passengers, an increase of 37.2% over one year, but only making it possible to find 45.6 % of 2019 level.

Roissy and Orly airports serving the Paris region performed less well than average, with 38.8% of the 2019 level, despite a 26.8% increase over one year to 42 million passengers.

For the year 2022, the group has expressed its optimism, expecting to regain between 70% and 80% of 2019 traffic for the group as a whole, a range which would be between 65% and 75% for the Parisian installations.

Benefiting from savings measures that have enabled it to lower its breakeven point, i.e. the volume of passengers from which it no longer loses money, ADP estimates that in 2022 it will be able to achieve a gross surplus margin of (EBITDA) between 30% and 35% of turnover.

He intends to return this year to a positive net result for the first time since 2019. He had lost 1.17 billion euros in 2020.

In the longer term, ADP believes that its Paris facilities will regain 2019 traffic between 2024 and 2026, while for all of the group’s airports, this chance is estimated between 2023 and 2024.
