Growing further – Skoda Superb: The Czech Passat is coming in autumn

The new VW Passat was just presented at the IAA and will only be available as a station wagon. Now Skoda is showing its own counterpart, albeit in disguise: the fourth generation of the Superb is due to arrive in November.

In addition to the Combi (that’s what Skoda’s station wagon is called), there is also another sedan, which for the first time has 48 mild hybrid technology as an entry-level gasoline engine with a 1.5-liter engine and 150 hp. As with the Combi, the performance range extends to 265 hp. The most powerful petrol and diesel engines are each coupled to all-wheel drive. For the first time, Skoda is combining all engines without exception with a seven-speed direct shift transmission (DSG). Both body variants grow in length by almost four and a half centimeters to over 4.90 meters and increase in height by a good centimeter. The width and wheelbase remain unchanged, the drag coefficient improves to 0.24 and the trunk volume of the sedan increases by 20 liters (645 liters, 690 liters for the Combi). The Superb IV has a head-up display and a central one 13-inch infotainment display. The gear lever is moved next to the steering column in the style of the VW parent company, creating space for more space on the center console. The new “Smart Dials” are located under the central display. The rotary knobs with digital displays are intended to provide quick and easy access to numerous vehicle functions. The new variants Essence, Selection and Sportline as well as Laurin & Klement replace the previous Active, Ambition and Style equipment lines. (aum)
