GTA 6 leak: 17-year-old hacker arrested by British police

The huge data leak concerning GTA 6 is talking about her again. During the weekend of September 24 and 25, 2022, the British police would have indeed got their hands on the hacker responsible for the intrusion at Rockstar Games. The details of the operation have not yet been revealed, but it is believed that the arrest was the result of a collaboration between the London police and the FBI.

A 17-year-old boy living with his mother

In a first tweetLondon police say they arrested a 17-year-old suspect in the county of Oxfordshire. Without explicitly linking the arrest to the Rockstar Game hack, law enforcement then explained that the teenager was accused of having twice made malicious use of computer tools and of not having respected his bail. The hacker, known by the pseudonym “AK”, would also have been behind hacks targeting Microsoft and Nvidia, which would have already earned him some trouble even before the GTA 6 affair.

According to the former Reuters journalist Matthew Keys, the young man – who still lived with his mother – would be part of the hacker group Lapsus$ which would also be behind the recent attack at Uber. Information corroborated by Uber who explained in a blog post that “the person(s) responsible for the attack would also be responsible for the intrusion at Rockstar Games“.

Microsoft, Samsung and other Lapsus$ victims

The hunt would also have been facilitated by the discovery of similarities between the hacks of Rockstar, Uber, Microsoft and Nvidia. “This group typically uses similar techniques to target technology companies. In 2022 alone, he hacked Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung, Nvidia, and Okta, among others“, explains Uber. Other police operations are reportedly underway to arrest the other members of the Lapsus$ group.

For its part, Rockstar Games has not yet reacted to the news, the investigation is still ongoing and AK’s guilt has not yet been proven, but the studio assured last week that the development of GTA 6 continued”as expected“despite this inconvenience.
