The American studio has finally just officially reacted to this affair.

This hacker, called Teapot, claims to be in possession of additional extracts. In a post on GTA Forums, the alleged thief said he wanted to negotiate with Rockstar and Take-Two, the studio’s parent company. This is simply extortion, since pirate plans to stream more snippetsbut also the source codes of GTA V and GTA 6 in case of refusal.
We also know that a user tried to buy the source code of GTA 6 for the amount of 100,000 dollars. Unfortunately for him, he fell into a trap set by scammers, who pretended to be the hacker behind the attack on Rockstar. Results, the $100,000 paid in Bitcoin ended up in a crook’s pocket.
Rockstar finally reacts, no worries for the development of the game
Now all eyes are on Rockstar. Will the studio speak up or hide in its usual silence? Nearly 36 hours after the first mentions of the leak, the Rockstar Games teams have finally spoken on the subject on the studio’s official Twitter account. Here is what we can read:
“We were recently victims of a network intrusion, during which an unauthorized third party illegally gained access to our systems and uploaded confidential information, including preliminary footage of the development of the next GTA. At this time we do not anticipate any disruption to our live gaming services, nor any long-term effects on the development of our ongoing projects.” ensures Rockstar.
The company confirms that the cyberattack will not have an impact on the servers of GTA Online or Red Dead Online for example. Afterwards, the studio confirms that the development of the title will follow its course. In other words, this incident shouldn’t cause a delay in Rockstar’s schedule, which is good news for those who feared a release delay.
“We are extremely disappointed that details about our upcoming game have been shared with you in this way. Our work on the next GTA will continue as planned and we remain as committed to providing you, our players, with an experience that truly exceeds your expectations.” guarantees the studio.
Note that if Rockstar’s press release mentions an intrusion on the studio’s servers, there is no reference to the source codes that the pirate would have stolen. Voluntary omission on the part of Rockstar or huge lie on the part of the hacker? The question still remains.
