(Boursier.com) — GTT was chosen in March 2022 by its partner, the Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), to design the cryogenic tanks for 4 container ships powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

LNG is today the best marine fuel for preserving air quality, a major public health issue. It reduces sulfur oxide emissions by 99%, fine particles by 91% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 92%. It also reduces ship emissions by up to -20% CO2 compared to a conventional ship. Each LNG fuel tank will integrate the Mark III membrane containment system, thus demonstrating the attractiveness of GTT technology for both medium-sized container ships and very large ships.

Container ship deliveries are scheduled between the 2nd and 4th quarters of 2024.

In addition to engineering services and technical assistance on the shipyard, GTT will support the operator at each stage of the first LNG propulsion operations (commissioning of the tank, first bunkering operations, other operations specific to LNG and vessel maintenance), and will train crews, using its G-Sim training simulator. GTT will also offer its HEARS emergency response service, including 24/7 technical assistance. In addition, GTT will equip these 4 vessels with its “GTT Digital” platform, which will make it possible to monitor and optimize the operational performance of the vessels, and reduce their energy consumption and their environmental footprint.
