Guadeloupe: one dead in a shooting at an outdoor party

A shooting during an outdoor party left one dead and at least three injured on Thursday March 24 in Guadeloupe, the public prosecutor told AFP, confirming information from local media.

The drama was tied Thursday noon in the town of Baie-Mauhault, said Patrick Desjardins, public prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre. At least three other people were injured by the gunfire or by the panic that followed the shooting. Their days are not in danger. The party, which had lasted since the evening before, brought together, until late in the morning, several hundred people, quickly dispersed after the shots.

Rescuers were unable to revive the victim, a young man in his thirties who was known “unfavorably from the police services”. The investigation entrusted to the research section of the gendarmerie should “also determine whether the shots were premeditated”, said Patrick Desjardins. The investigators have already launched an appeal for witnesses because, still according to the same source, “given the number of participants at the party, there must have been people who attended the scene”.
