Six years after their last solo adventure, and after a small appearance in Thor: Love and Thunderthe Guardians of the Galaxy team is about to make its grand return to the cinema, in a third “volume” larger than ever… and which promises its share of surprises and new characters.

A new Marvel film that also looks like the end of the cycle for the current Guardians team, as announced by the first decidedly dramatic images. The story of Guardians of the Galaxy 3

This 32nd film (!!!) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an integral part of its phase 5, promises to propel our merry band of Guardians into a much less funky atmosphere than usual, and face the fearsome Master of Evolution . This expert character in genetic manipulation is a new threat to our heroes, and obviously has a dark past in common and scores to settle with Rocket.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 promises to be darker and more melancholy than the previous installments, and will also mark the arrival of a key character for the future of the MCU: the overpowering Adam Warlock, teased at the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Here is the official synopsis of the film: “As they prepare to settle in Knowhere, our favorite band of misfits finds their destiny turned upside down by the echoes of Rocket’s dark past. Determined to save the life of his teammate, Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, once again gathers his squad around him for a dangerous mission. A mission which, if not completed, could well lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”.

Who is in charge of the film?

Already writing and directing the first two parts, James Gunn obviously returns to the helm of this Volume 3, after his escapade on the side of the DC universe with The Suicide Squad and the series Peacemaker. Like the rest of the MCU, the film is produced by the indestructible Kevin Feige, and co-produced by David J. Grant and Lars P. Winther (Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 And 2).

Music lovers will be able to enjoy music by John Murphy (28 days later, sunshine), a regular with Danny Boyle, as well as the light of cinematographer Henry Braham (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad). You will have noticed, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was done with a team that knows each other well and is used to working together.

What release date?

Announced in April 2016 by producer Kevin Feige, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 experienced some upheavals in its production, and in particular the dismissal of James Gunn in July 2018, due to controversial tweets. The director was finally rehired a few months later. Principal photography for the film began on November 8, 2021 and wrapped on May 6, 2022.

Originally scheduled to be released on May 1, 2020, the film has experienced numerous postponements, in particular due to the pandemic. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will finally be released in cinemas on May 3, 2023 in France, and on May 5 in the United States. Its duration is 146 minutes, or 2h26.

We take the same and we start again: the film will see the return of the usual team of guardians, that is to say Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Karen Gillian (Nebula) and Pom Klementieff (Mantis).
