Guardians of the Galaxy 3: who is Will Poulter alias Adam Warlock, new superpowered Marvel character?

In theaters since Wednesday, “Guardians of the Galaxy 3” marks the arrival of two newcomers to the Marvel universe: the Master of Evolution and Adam Warlock. Where have you already seen the interpreter of the latter?

His arrival was announced in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in 2017. MCU fans had to be patient before seeing him fully in action: Adam Warlock is one of the antagonists of Star-Lord and his band in The Guardians of the Galaxy 3. And to embody it, it is the British actor Will Poulter who has been chosen.

The son of a nurse and a professor of cardiology, he dreamed from an early age of embracing a career in cinema. After a stint at the Harrodian School, he took part in numerous shows for budding comedians such as the Comedy Shuffle and especially the School of Comedy, where he demonstrated a strong sense of self-mockery and a certain ability to slip in the skin of any character.

Noticed by director Garth Jenning, he was offered a role in the comedy The Son of Rambow (2007) where, accompanied by Bill Milner, he staged a parody version of Stallone’s famous film. The successes will then follow. In 2010, he joined the cast of the third part of the fantastic saga The Chronicles of Narnia, where he played Eustace Scrubb, the pretentious and rude cousin of the Pevensies, who initially gave the siblings a hard time before repenting. . His performance did not go unnoticed.

The following year, we find him in Wild Bill, a “gangster” film where he portrays the eldest son of a mobster fresh out of prison. This already well-started career then experienced a meteoric rise in 2013 with the hilarious comedy The Millers, a budding family, which he defends alongside Emma Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis. Thanks to his performance, the young actor won a Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs, stealing the show from Dane DeHaan or George MacKay. Will Poulter is busy. In 2014, he starred in the dystopia Le Labyrinthe, with another rising star: Dylan O’Brien.

The labyrinth

After wandering through The Labyrinth, the actor was chosen by the great winner of the 2015 Oscars, Alejandro González Iñárritu, to slip into the skin of Jim Bridger in The Revenant. The 22-year-old Englishman gives the answer to a certain Leonardo DiCaprio. The film tells the revenge of a soldier left for dead by his ex-companions and will be released in January 2016.

However, Will Poulter’s path does not end with the consecration of playing under the direction of the Mexican filmmaker. Indeed, in May 2015, the Brit landed the role of the evil clown Pennywise (Pennywise in VO) in It, a remake of the film of the same name released in 1990. But the actor left the project following the departure of director Cary Fukunaga to devote himself to Detroit by Kathryn Bigelow, who talks about the violent riots that took place in the American city on July 23, 1967. He makes an impression in the skin of an ultra-violent and racist policeman with questionable methods.

After resuming his character as Gally in The Labyrinth: The Death Cure, the London native starred in two harrowing films, The Little Stranger and especially Midsommar, in which he finds himself at the mercy of a sect deep in Sweden. At the same time, he landed more and more roles in series. It is seen in the interactive episode of Black Mirror, Bandersnatch, The Underground Railroad by Barry Jenkins and the mini-series Why Not Evans? and Dopesick. The first is adapted from Agatha Christie, while the second focuses on the opiate crisis in the United States. There is a brilliant salesman who, little by little, realizes the dangerousness of oxycodone.

In 2023, he joined the MCU for Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Will plays the superhero Adam Warlock, a genetically superior being. If he is quite unknown to the general public, this character is particularly awaited by fans. Created by the Master of Evolution and commissioned by the latter to fetch Rocket Racoon, he draws his strength and his power of regeneration from cosmic energy, which makes him an almost invincible being.

Will we see him again in the MCU? The actor kicks into touch in the columns of the New York Times : “It kind of depends on how people react to the character. If fans don’t like Adam Warlock, obviously I’d be very disappointed.”
