Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax, Rocket, Groot and the whole crew celebrate Christmas on Disney+ in James Gunn’s hilarious Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays single. For the occasion, meeting with Pom Klementieff and the legendary Kevin Bacon!
Ho, ho, ho! While the closed windows of your advent calendar will still taunt you for a few more days, Disney + is adorning itself with its most beautiful garlands and offers you Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays. In this funny and moving adventure, Mantis and Drax try to make Peter Quill’s Christmas as unforgettable as possible. On this occasion, Pom Klementieff and Kevin Bacon answered our questions.
AlloCiné: What did you think when you discovered the screenplay for the first time?
Kevin Bacon: I thought that was hilarious. I thought it was a fun way to play with the reference from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, where Star-Lord mentions Kevin Bacon, and sort of introduces him as that kind of fictional hero with a lot of humor . It had been in the pipeline for a while, it couldn’t be done for various reasons. James Gunn had spoken to me about this idea, and even without reading the script, I was immediately on board. I know him, I know his sense of humor and I love Guardians of the Galaxy, so it was a huge pleasure to participate!

Pom Klementieff: Oh, I laughed so much! James Gunn told me about it and pitched the idea to me and I thought it was so great. I read [le scénario] and I found it so funny and moving. It’s really special to be able to play a character like [Mantis], which is completely weird and weird. To be in the register of comedy, but at the same time always anchored in something moving and deep, which speaks of family and love.
AlloCiné: Mantis and Drax really form an incredible duo. Pom, what was it like having your own adventure with Dave Bautista ?
Pom Klementieff: It was so funny, I love the dynamic between the two characters because it’s kind of like a brother and a sister bickering all the time and saying to each other “I am right ! No, you are wrong!” and in fact, no one is right because they live in a reality of their own, and it creates a lot of comedy and chaos!

AlloCiné: This project is completely meta. How much fun did you have on set?
Kevin Bacon: It was just happiness…pure happiness! I landed in this almost magical world that they created in Atlanta and discovered this magnificent set and all the extras, some of them completely transformed into aliens, with all these costumes and complex makeup, but everyone was happy to be there, surrounded by all those Christmas decorations. The whole cast was lovely and welcomed me with open arms, it was awesome. I love James and we had a blast!
AlloCiné: Pom, did you like giving the reply to Kevin Bacon? And especially repeat his name all day long?
Pom Klementieff: [Rires] It’s true that I said his name so many times between Avengers: Infinity War and this film. It’s funny, because his name has been referenced in several films, especially in Guardians of the Galaxy and also in one of the Avengers films, I was saying “Like Kevin Bacon?”. It’s great how James Gunn really weaves the story together in this way. In his brain everything was written from the beginning, and everything makes sense. Well, he’s a genius!

AlloCiné: Kevin, how does it feel to be the man who inspired Star-Lord to become a hero?
Kevin Bacon: [Rires] Listen, it was a real shock to me! I’ll tell you what happened: I worked with James Gunn on a little movie called Super. One day, someone asked me if I had seen Guardians of the Galaxy, but I hadn’t had the chance yet. I went to see it at the cinema and it was a real shock. I was sitting alone, with my popcorn, as I do regularly, and suddenly I heard my name. And I looked around asking “Did you hear what they said?”. As I was leaving, I called my wife to tell her that she was never going to believe what happened in the movie. It was a really fun way to find out. So when James decided to come full circle with this special Christmas unit idea, I was in!
