GUERBET press release

Guerbet welcomes the launch of the MeGadoRe Chair for a greener future in medical imaging.

The MeGadoRe project – the path to “green radiology”

Launched in Brest in 2021 under the leadership of professors Douraïed Ben Salem, neuroradiologist at Brest University Hospital, Jean-Alix Barrat, geochemist and researcher at Lemar2 and Raphaël Tripier, chemist and researcher at the CEMCA3 laboratory, the MeGadoRe project for “Medical Gadolinium Recycling » finds its origin in the discovery of the pollution of marine fauna by gadolinium. Gadolinium, a rare earth, is the main contrast agent used in MRI. This MeGadoRe project intends to reduce the environmental impact of these examinations, by creating a “green MRI” network in France, then on a European scale to recover these quantities of product not injected.
