The eighth Eberhofer thriller “Guglhupfgeschwader” grabs the top spot in the German cinema charts and breaks two more records.

Dream start for “Guglhupfgeschwader”: The new Eberhofer thriller with Sebastian Bezzel (51) as the village policeman Franz Eberhofer has taken the top spot in the German cinema charts. As Constantin Film announced in a statementsince its release on August 4, 2022, almost 300,000 moviegoers have watched the eighth part of the film series based on the books by Rita Falk (58).

With this number of visitors, “Guglhupfgeschwader” also sets a nationwide record: No German film has been more successful since the beginning of the pandemic.

Best start of an Eberhofer thriller so far

The popular Eberhofer series began almost exactly nine years ago with “Dampfnudelblues”. Since then, an incredible 7.3 million viewers have flocked to the cinemas throughout the German-speaking world to watch the main actors Sebastian Bezzel, Simon Schwarz (51) and, more recently, the dog Xaver (plays Hinkelotta). The new Eberhofer “Guglhupfgeschwader” even has the most successful start of the whole series so far. In Austria, too, it went straight to the top of the cinema list.

That’s what “Guglhupfgeschwader” is about

Much to his chagrin, village policeman Franz Eberhofer gets involved with an organized crime in tranquil Niederkaltenkirchen. To make matters worse, his partner Rudi (Simon Schwarz) has recently been in a relationship with Theresa (Stefanie Reinsperger, 34), who enjoys discussing things, which makes the investigation even more difficult. While Niederkaltenkirchen is in the lottery fever, Franz is forced by his Susi (Lisa Maria Potthoff, 44) to go to couples therapy – a thoroughly nerve-wracking experience for the phlegmatic Niederbayern…

It is already clear that “Rehragout-Rendezvous” will be the ninth Eberhofer in German cinemas on August 3, 2023.
