If anyone knows anything about interiors, then yes, Guido Maria Kretschmer. How appropriate: the designer is also a big fan of sustainability. In an interview, he talks to us about the most important piece of furniture in the apartment.

Leafing through “Guido’s Deco Queen” will quickly make you want to rearrange your whole home. After all, on every page you can see new inspiration on how to give your own four walls a fresh look. But: such a renovation is quickly in the money. And constantly rearranging is not really in the sense of sustainability.

Guido Maria Kretschmer attaches great importance to durability. He advises: it’s better to buy something good instead of constantly exchanging it. You can set new impulses with small changes such as lamps and textiles, as he told us in the last interview. However, when it comes to large pieces of furniture, it is better to focus on quality than quantity. The designer has one part in particular that is definitely worth investing in!

“I believe in the bed,” says Guido Maria Kretschmer, because “it’s such an important area where you spend a lot of time.” That’s why he would advise never making hasty decisions when buying a bed. Instead, it is better to look around for a while until you have really found the right property for you and your home – and save a little money in the meantime.

Guido Maria Kretschmer: You should ask yourself this question when buying a bed

In the looking around phase, several aspects are important that make up a good bed. In addition to the obvious – the cosiness – Guido Maria Kretschmer emphasizes the quality: “I think you should make sure that it is sustainable and well made,” he advises.

Guido comes up with another question that you should ask yourself openly when it comes to the agony of choosing a mattress. Hand on heart, says Guido, and honestly consider how you want to use the good piece in the next few years: “Do I sleep alone now? Do I sleep with someone? Many forget that this also changes the mattress,” he says . But because none of us can see into the future, the simple answer would be: buy individual mattresses. After all, you can still fill the gap in between with a so-called love bridge – and the bed is already suitable for single use as well as for couple use – and everything in between.
