Gold or silver, filigree or solid, simple or with sparkling stones. In the fashion world, one jewelry trend follows another and we'd like to try them all out. Star designer Guido Maria Kretschmer tells us in an interview which jewelry trends are totally underestimated and deserve a place under our Christmas tree.

From Carolin Gelb

In one season we wear statement jewelry, then again filigree pieces. In summer, playful jewelry is on the rise, in winter it becomes more elegant again. But which jewelry trends are really always on trend and are often totally overlooked? As part of the CHRIST Christmas campaign “Dreams come true”, 100 dream packages are raffled off every December week until December 20th. Guido Maria Kretschmer is one of the “dream come true” and tells us exclusively which pieces of jewelry always fit and should not be forgotten.

1. Time for something real

It's not the time for big, massive costume jewelry. 2020 is the year for real jewelry. At this time in particular, I think that we should focus on good and valuable pieces of jewelry. This can be gold or silver, for example.

Guido Maria Kretschmer is certain: you can never go wrong with real jewelery, and precious metal parts in a wide variety of designs remain trendy. It can be a fine chain with a special pendant that we wear every day or a classic bracelet that will make us friends for many years to come.

2. Diamonds are a girl's best friend

I think the combination of jewelry with real stones is still totally underestimated. If it can be a bit bigger, then solitaire rings, for example, are an issue. Or bracelets with stones that are specially cut.

Let's be honest: Which fashion girl can say no to sparkling jewelry? And the star designer also thinks that pieces of jewelery with stones deserve a better chance in the fashion world. After all, they are not only beautiful, but also give every look that special something. It doesn't necessarily have to be diamonds. Even a simple stone can look totally noble with a special cut – and it won't go out of style anytime soon.

3. Heirlooms

Heirlooms should get a much bigger stage. For me, Christmas is always the moment to wear inherited jewelry. That reminds me to think about the people who are no longer there.

Pieces of jewelry that have been inherited are usually not only material, but also have a high emotional value. We use it to connect people who are no longer there, but who will always have a place in our hearts. This is exactly why Guido Maria Kretschmer finds it important to integrate the inherited jewelry into looks more often. With it we can not only make a fashion statement, but also think of our loved ones more often.

When giving gifts, it is particularly important: It must suit the person who receives the jewelry item. Both in terms of appearance and character.

Trends or not: It is more important to the star designer that we wear jewelry that suits us. It doesn't matter whether the piece of jewelry is delicate or bulky. As long as it reflects us and we feel comfortable wearing it, we can't go wrong!
