Ask Guido: Which shoes are comfortable and chic at the same time?

Today’s question is all about shoes. The reader works as a teacher, is just in her 30s and has a lot of standing and walking throughout the day due to her job – comfortable shoes are an absolute must. Problem: It’s not easy to style to match – she doesn’t want to look like a college student in her 20s or a woman in her 50s. So your question to Guido is:

How can I style myself 30s-appropriate with comfortable shoes?

And that’s Guido’s answer: “It always depends a bit on the size of your feet, basically I don’t think you can go wrong with the flat, classic ballerinas, they almost always work. Except maybe if you have very large feet then ballerinas can quickly become a killer because they then appear even bigger. It is advisable to opt for more reserved colors and for shoes that do not have a second color on the front.

Ballerinas are particularly beautifully staged by palazzo trousers, which makes beautiful legs and also makes the overall picture “casual”. But ballerinas always run the risk of appearing a bit stuffy. It always has something of the ‘eternal girl’ about it, you have to be aware of that when you wear it. The alternative to this would be classic, beautiful mules that you can simply slip into – they are also casual enough for school. They are also available in very, very nice colors. A very special advantage for teachers: you can take them off under the table! There are also great sandals for the summer, for example in suede or braided.

Sneakers would also be possible, but it depends a bit on what kind of guy you are. When it comes to summer sneakers, it is of course very pretty when they are white and uncomplicated. What I would advise against are Chucks, because first of all they totally ruin your feet over long distances, and it is very unhealthy to wear them all the time, especially in a job where you spend a lot of time. And of course they create exactly the effect you don’t want: that people think you want to portray yourself as an ‘eternally young thing’. There are so many nice alternatives, especially in summer the sandals mentioned. I would also advise against flip-flops, because you can easily lose your balance and twist your ankle.”
