Guillaume Canet and the rumors about his relationship with Marion Cotillard: “I was fed up”

In 2017, Yvan Attal played his own role in Rock’n Roll by Guillaume Canet. Seven years later, the two actors find themselves on the poster of‘A roll of the dice, directed by the spouse of Charlotte Gainsbourg. To talk about the film which will be released in cinemas on January 24, the actors gave a cross interview to Madame Figaro Friday January 19. And against all expectations, Guillaume Canet also addressed a hot topic, namely the rumors surrounding his relationship with Marion Cotillard since many years.

Questioned by Marilyne Letterre about her “need to tell oneself” through couple scenarios (Rock’n’roll And My wife is an actress), the director confided having “fed up that we are expressing ourselves on [son] picture and [son] couple has [sa] place”. “I heard so much bullshit that I wanted to reclaim this story, to laugh with the public at what he was projecting of us”, he finally confided. And to list a few anecdotes: “Marion who lives in Los Angeles, the newbie who calls me Monsieur Cotillard…

“I belong to no one…”

This is not the first time that Guillaume Canet has set the record straight in the face of rumors about him and the woman who has shared his life since 2007. The last time was in September 2023. While he was interviewed at the occasion of the release of his film Acid by a journalist from Parisianthe 50-year-old director responded bluntly to a question about his alleged separation. “It’s my private life, it concerns me”, he immediately said to cut things short. The father of Marcel and Louise simply assured that he and his partner formed a normal familywith difficult times to go through”but also with “reconstructions”. Despite the vagaries of every love story, “All [allait] GOOD”. To be completely clear, Guillaume Canet clarified that it was not “not because [il faisait] films that[il avait] the need to talk about [sa] life.” And to conclude: “I belong to no one…” Enough to be clear.
