Guilty Gear Strive: Johnny Leads Season 3, New Mechanics In Sight

A swordsman from the Hirofumi school with a lightning-fast katana, Johnny is above all a fierce gambler and the captain/daron of the Jellyfish Pirates, a group of war refugees stealing from the rich to give back to the poor. His protege May was also in the starting roster. If, in the previous Guilty Gear, Johnny worked with a system of gold coins to spend, the pirate trades here the loose change against the playing cards which he uses as projectiles. He will be the first of four DLC characters coming in Season 3, which will run until 2024.

Comeback

However, more than a handful of paying characters, Season 3 of Guilty Gear Strive will mostly dust off the game systems to introduce new universal mechanics. So the Wild Assault burns 50% of your super gauge in exchange for an offensive forward rush. On the contrary, the Deflect Shield is a defensive move costing 50% of our Burst Gauge. It protects us against almost all attacks – projectiles, lows, overheads – as long as they are not mugs. Ideal when you fear not knowing how to react to mix up opponent.

Finally, six characters (of the fifteen starting) will receive new special moves to beef up their game. Only May, Faust, Ramlethal and Anji are confirmed for now. After this first salvo, Arc System Works will attack other fighters so that no one feels abandoned.

Johnny and Season 3 of Guilty Gear Strive will land on August 24 on our bikes. An eternal Season Pass will accompany the movement; you can find the content below. It is billed at $24.99 (European price to be confirmed).
