But no palace visit for the Federal President! Guy Parmelin (61) was supposed to meet the Emperor of Japan Naruhito and the Japanese Foreign Minister today. But the Federal Council jet thwarted his plans.
Due to technical problems, Parmelin and his delegation had to turn back and missed the festive meeting, Parmelin writes on Twitter.
“On the flight to Japan with the Falcon 900 of the Federal Air Transport Service, the technical monitoring systems of the aircraft in the Riga region indicated a technical problem on one of the engines,” says communications chief Urs Wiedmer to the “Tages-Anzeiger”.
He then took a scheduled flight
After consulting the Federal President, the crew decided to return to Switzerland. But flight safety was never endangered.
Parmelin arrived on time for the opening ceremony in Tokyo on Friday at 1 p.m. He started the trip to Japan on a scheduled flight, said Wiedmer.
Parmelin will stay in Japan until Sunday. Nothing will come of the meeting with the emperor, but Parmelin is supposed to meet with Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. In addition, the Federal President will meet Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, on Saturday.
