The Blossom Brush is a product that is far from unanimous among health professionals. Supposed to be a tool to make the rules more pleasant, this brush can be dangerous for its users. Here is how the object is presented by the brand: "Helping a woman feel fresher and make her period more manageable." In addition, the American company which markets the Blossom Brush evokes the fact that this product makes it possible to use less hygienic protections during the period of the rules. But the problem is that this product is useless for the vagina which can clean itself. Gynecologist Jennifer Gunter has spoken about this new brush, denouncing the disclosure of misconceptions on the subject: "Every day it seems someone comes up with a completely unnecessary, yet harmful, new vaginal cleansing product marketed as a breakthrough."

In addition, the marketing of this product reinforces the received idea according to which the rules are dirty whereas it is about something natural and clean for the vagina. Following the controversy, the company explained that this product was made "with good intentions", refusing to qualify the rules as "dirty". Since then, we see that the Instagram of the Blossom Brush has been deleted.

There is no evidence that the vagina needs to be cleaned internally

The marketing of this brush is in addition to other much criticized practices such as douching and vaginal cleaning. However, many doctors have already said that this practice can be dangerous for the health of women. Brooke Vandermolen, gynecologist, confided in the HuffingtonPost UK: "Cleaning or douching has always been criticized as harmful. The organisms in the vagina carefully regulate themselves to maintain the ideal conditions, to prevent infections and to maintain the balance in the vagina . " Thus, there would be no need for a tool to physically cleanse menstrual blood, as the vagina has a self-cleaning function: "I urge women to avoid purchasing products like these which can cause more harm than benefit." adds the gynecologist.
