"Had very good conversations": Bayern are serious about Upamecano

"Had very good conversations"
Bavarians are serious about Upamecano

It is well known that Munich is flirting with RB high performer Dayot Upamecano. Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic is now giving talks with the defender's advisors. Bayern see themselves ahead in transfer poker, but apparently other big names want to play.

In an effort to get RB Leipzig's defense chief Dayot Upamecano, those responsible at Bayern Munich met with the Frenchman's advisors. "We had very good, professional discussions. Now we have to see what happens there," said sports director Hasan Salihamidzic on TV channel Sky. He thus confirmed a media report from the same day that Sascha Breese and Volker Struth were on Thursday for a conversation on Säbener Strasse.

According to information from the "Bild" newspaper, the German soccer record champion sees himself in the forefront of advertising for Upamecano. RB Managing Director Oliver Mintzlaff confirmed a telephone conversation with the Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Sky TV. "The fact is, I spoke to him on the phone and we stayed so that we would speak again when things got more specific."

Nothing decided yet

Rummenigge had confirmed the Munich company's interest in Upamecano. "He has a release clause, that's well known," said Mintzlaff. But nothing has been decided yet. Other top European clubs should be interested in the central defender. "Such a player is not only on the list at Bayern," said Mintzlaff.

Upamecano moved from Red Bull Salzburg to RB Leipzig in January 2017. There the 1.86 meter tall and 90 kilogram heavy defender became one of the top performers. Upamecano extended his contract with RB Leipzig last summer, which is valid until the end of June 2023. The 22-year-old is said to have an exit clause in his current working paper that would make it possible to leave. It should be around 43 million euros. RB is said to have transferred 10 million euros to Salzburg at the time.

FC Bayern recently made its interest in Upamecano public. Also traded as possible new clubs are Liverpool FC with Jürgen Klopp and Chelsea FC with Thomas Tuchel. Upamecano reportedly wants to make a decision by mid-February.
