Hair donation: increase since confinement

Associations collect donations of hair to make wigs for sick people. With the confinement and closure of hair salons, the number of donations has jumped!

During confinement, we saw many complaining that their hair was longer than they liked, and regretting that the hairdressing salons were closed. This disappointment for some has turned into hope for others: since deconfinement, the number of hair donations has doubled, reports the Huffington Post ! It must be said that, after two months of growing their mop, many people had material to give to make wigs for sick people.

The Fake Hair Don't Care association explains that it receives on average "twice as many hair donations daily than normal". Thus, it indicates to the Huffington Post that before confinement, she received a hundred donations every day. "During the confinement and until today this figure rose to more than 200", she adds, and that's a very good thing!

The Belgian association Think Pink is also seeing an increase in donations. "Following the confinement and our action launched #lokdonation, we saw an increase in hair donations to the tune of 50% additional compared to our annual cut radiance campaign", she says.

Donating hair is very easy. If your lengths are long enough (between 10 and 25 cm depending on the associations) and they are not damaged, you can separate them in two to make two ponytails. Then you cut them to the desired length, or ask your hairstylist to do it. Then, just place the wicks in an envelope and send them to an association. From France, it is possible to make donations to Fake Hair Don't Care, Solidhair and Think Pink. The hair thus collected will be used to make wigs with natural hair, which is much more realistic and comfortable than synthetic ones. These are intended for sick people, especially those suffering from cancer, who lose their hair due to their treatment.
