Sworn enemies of women, hair grows more and more with age. Hair can be darker and often coarser than simple down, especially after menopause, where “there is physiological hyperandrogenism”, explains Dr Reyhan Amode, dermatologist and venereologist at the Paris Marais dermatology center. Although natural, these sometimes represent a real complex, particularly when they appear on the face, and more particularly on the chin of certain women. If you are not comfortable with these unwanted items, it is entirely possible to remove them at home or in an institute.
Why do I have hair growing on my chin?
The appearance of hair on the chin can be linked to different main factors: hormones, age and skin tone. If some women in your family have chin hair, chances are you will too as you get older. Unfortunately, brunettes will obviously be more affected by this growth considered unsightly.
Some women also suffer fromhirsutism, i.e. very developed hair growth on the lower part of the face and also due to a hormonal problem. But often the appearance of hair on the chin is directly linked to a male hormone known to everyone: testosterone. “Chin hair is said to be hormone-dependent: it is directly linked to the secretion of testosterone, a male hormone (or androgen) that men, but also women, produce in smaller quantities”we can read on the website of the Verdun aesthetic center. This is why during hormonal changes they tend to be more numerous. “Chin hair sometimes tends to appear during hormonal changes, particularly at menopause, when the production of female hormones – estrogen – decreases”specifies the institute.
Hair on the chin: how to remove it at home?
Do you have two or three hairs on your chin that are fighting a duel? You can use your tweezers. Start by cleaning your face then disinfect the tweezers. Remove the hairs one by one, in the direction of growth to avoid ingrown hairs. Indeed, the first reflex when you see a growth of hair on your chin is to draw out your tweezers to get rid of them as quickly as possible. However, what seems most obvious to us might not ultimately be the best idea. If your skin as well as your tweezers are not clean, then it can pose a risk to your face.
Banish wax which also removes fuzz. “Shaving or waxing stimulates the hair and could promote its transformation into hair in so-called androgen-dependent areas”warns the dermatologist.
Chin hair: how to stop the growth of chin hair in a woman?
If you have more hair, say goodbye to creams and waxes which will have no long-term effect. Dr. Reyhan Amode recommends consulting a specialist to determine the hair removal method best suited to your profile so as not to stimulate adjacent hair. The dermatologist recommends in particular:
Laser: the most effective technique for chin hair removal on black hair
This technique, which is increasingly popular, makes it possible to eradicate the hair at its root. The laser is found to be very effective in getting rid of black hairs, but not white hairs. “The laser targets the pigments, so white hairs do not respond to this method,” specifies the doctor who then recommends electrolysis.
Electrolysis: the solution to get rid of white, red and blond hair on a woman
Quite old, this technique consists of passing an electric current near the bulb in the skin using a small fine needle. It will permanently destroy the lightest hairs on the lower face, but also separate it from your down.
These two long-term hair removal methods require several sessions to get rid of the hair. However, be careful with these two techniques, especially if your skin is sensitive. In both cases, Dr Reyhan Amode emphasizes the importance of an interview with a dermatologist to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
