Oriental wax: what is it?
Oriental wax comes to us from the Middle East. A true ancestral beauty recipe, it has been used for centuries. With oriental wax, the hairs are extracted from the bulb and the regrowth is therefore much slower. Three weeks of tranquility guaranteed!
Potentially 100% natural, economical, very effective, gentle on the skin, it is also very easy to make yourself at home. It only includes a few ingredients: sugar, water, honey, lemon juice. That's all !
Unlike cold wax, oriental wax can be used to depilate any hairy area of the body or face: upper lip or chin, legs, armpits, bikini line. For those in a hurry, there is also oriental wax ready to use in institutes or supermarkets. But it is so simple to make yourself, that it would be a shame not to start preparing a homemade wax.
Sugar: miracle ingredient of oriental wax
Oriental wax is also often called “sugar wax”. Sugar is indeed its main ingredient and it is it, once transformed into caramel, which will help pull the hairs. Thanks to its antiseptic properties it helps healing and softens the skin. To make your homemade wax, the ideal is to choose an organic blond sugar. A little more expensive than a classic white sugar, but sweeter for the planet … and better in your yogurts as long as you do!
Our homemade wax recipe
Making a homemade wax is child's play and nothing technical. However, there are a few very important rules to follow: we don't compromise on the quality of the ingredients, we respect the quantities to the letter, we monitor the cooking as if our life depended on it, while being absolutely vigilant about the risk of burns. .
Ingredients
Sugar: 280 g
Water: 60 g
Lemon juice: 40 g
Honey: 20 g (moisturizing and antibacterial)
These quantities are given for information only. Nothing prevents you from doubling the grammages if you want to make more homemade wax, especially since it can be stored for three months in a jar in the refrigerator without any problem. Then you just need to reheat it for a few seconds in the microwave.
The preparation
Rule number one before you start making care or cosmetic products at home: take care of the cleanliness of your utensils.
First stage : Pour the sugar, water and lemon juice into a small saucepan over low heat. Then stir gently until the sugar melts and the caramel begins to form.
Second step : When the preparation begins to bubble, you must stop stirring and allow the caramel to mature. If you have a kitchen thermometer, check that the temperature does not exceed 120 degrees, otherwise your caramel will become brittle and unusable.
Third step : Then remove the pan from the heat and add the honey. At this point, your homemade wax is ready, but far too hot to use. It will therefore have to be allowed to cool before taking action to avoid any risk of burns. It is not essential, but nothing prevents you at this stage from adding to the preparation a tablespoon of hydrosol of rose or orange blossom to make your wax more pleasant to use.
When the wax is lukewarm, knead the dough (this can take several minutes) until you get a homogeneous mixture, then form a ball.
How to do your hair removal properly with a homemade wax?
Little tip, the day before waxing, make a scrub to remove dead cells. Your skin will only be softer! Nothing prevents you from making your own homemade exfoliation by mixing a tablespoon of sugar, two tablespoons of a vegetable oil of your choice and a touch of honey for a 100% natural treatment.
Homemade wax is used lukewarm and does not require the use of cotton bands, but always check the temperature of your wax before proceeding to hair removal. Also make sure your skin is completely dry. It is recommended to apply talc to the area to be epilated to prevent the caramel from sticking to the skin, the wax will be easier to remove. If you do not have one, also consider clay or, failing that, a little cornstarch.
Spread the wax with your fingers or a spatula on the area to be epilated, then pluck the strip with a firm gesture and always in the direction of the hair to pull it out from the bulb.
What care after a homemade oriental waxing?
A little redness may appear after use, but the preparation contains no chemicals, no risk of allergic reaction. After waxing, you can easily remove the wax residue with a little water. To soothe and moisturize the skin, then apply aloe vera gel or the vegetable oil of your choice.
