Blow-drying is not good for your hair. That’s why we should forego blow-drying and heat styling on warm summer days.

Drying your hair with a warm blow dryer: In summer there are certainly more pleasant things. So why not leave the house with your hair slightly damp? Air drying not only saves time and energy, it is also healthier for the hair.

Excessive exposure to the sun, chlorine and constant immersion in water put stress on hair in summer. Let the mane take a break. And you can easily do without a hairdryer, straightening iron and curling iron. Especially since an air-dried mane can look just as good as a blow-dry from the hairdresser with the right tricks.

Curly hair needs more moisture in summer

Anyone who has natural curls knows this: High humidity leads to hair curling, nothing looks as it should, and the curls are not properly defined. Even when washing, you should provide the curls with plenty of moisture with conditioner or a hair mask. Because curly hair is naturally drier and needs a lot of moisture, especially in summer.

After washing, the hair should be kneaded overhead with a towel – preferably from the tips upwards. Instead of a towel, you can also use a cotton T-shirt, because the structure of a towel can cause your hair to break. Then knead a generous amount of hair oil into the curls. This locks in moisture and avoids frizz. Then just let the air work. To keep the curls as long as possible, we recommend wrapping your hair in a silk wrap overnight on hot summer nights.

Special care for Afro hair

Healthy hair is born in the shower: This also applies to Afro hair. If you want to let these air dry, you should use a shampoo that is free from sulfates, because these dry out the hair. A moisturizing conditioner is then essential. Every now and then, the hair can only be washed with conditioner and the shampoo can be omitted. Then instead of a terry towel, use a microfiber cloth to gently pat it dry – press lightly from the tips upwards.

Then divide the hair into several sections – it will dry faster this way. For care you should stick to the LOC method: leave in, oil, cream. First massage a leave-in conditioner into the towel-dried, divided hair, then lock in the moisture of the conditioner with a hair oil and then shape and define the curls with a styling cream.

Allow wavy hair to air dry

Wavy hair is extremely capricious: sometimes it falls beautifully in soft, even waves, other times it sticks out in all directions and you want to grab the straightening iron right away. That’s enough of that. After shampooing, gently pat dry with a towel, apply combing spray or leave-in conditioner to your hair, then comb through with a wide-pronged curling comb.

To make the waves stronger, you can put some sea salt spray in your hair – this will strengthen the wave, similar to sea water. For lighter waves, moisturize the hair with a little hair oil. For even definition, divide the hair into several sections and braid loosely. Just before the hair is completely dry, open the braids.

Give volume to straight hair

It is a little easier for straight hair than curly or wavy hair. But if you let them air dry, the desired volume is often missing. In order to conjure up a voluminous mane from spaghetti-like hair, you should first wash your hair with volume shampoo. Straight hair is usually naturally blessed with more moisture, so you shouldn’t use a conditioner every time you wash your hair, as this weighs down the hair. Better just now and then and as needed.

After washing your hair, dry it slightly with a towel, then comb through with a wide-pointed comb or a wet brush. Before leaving the house, a volumizing spray should be sprayed on and some hair oil should be lightly poured into the tips. When the hair is dry, shake your head forward once – done!
