Haiti: Resignation of the Prime Minister, the presidential council takes oath

(Reuters) – Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry officially submitted his resignation on Thursday, the day of the installation of a transitional presidential council called to lead this Caribbean country plagued by violence and a deep political crisis.

The council was sworn in on Thursday and was expected to be installed in an official ceremony.

Finance Minister Patrick Boisvert will serve as interim Prime Minister, according to the Official Journal.

Haiti, which has neither president nor parliament, is plagued by armed gang violence which left more than 2,500 dead or injured between January and March, according to UN statistics.
