(Reuters) The Democrats in the US House of Representatives elected Hakeem Jeffries as their new group leader on Wednesday.
The 52-year-old will replace Nancy Pelosi, who has long been at the helm of the group, in January. With his election, Jeffries becomes the first African American to hold a senior position in either the House of Representatives or the Senate.
