The torch still has a long way to go before the 2024 Olympics. It has now spent a short time in the hands of Halle Berry.

On April 16th of this year, the Olympic flame was lit in Olympia, Greece – about two months later, it was received by very famous hands: The American star Halle Berry (57) took over the honor for a small part of the long journey and carried the Olympic torch along part of the Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes.

The Oscar winner took over the flame on the red steps in front of the Palais des Festivals during the Cannes Lions Festival. Berry, dressed entirely in white, then set off under the gaze of numerous onlookers before being replaced on the Croisette. Other prominent torchbearers included According to “Page Six” also the US sports stars Megan Rapinoe (38, football), Paul Rabil (38, lacrosse) and Shaun White (37, snowboarding).

According to the report, the ceremonial torch relay did not only cause a storm of jubilation. There was also discontent among visitors to the Cannes Lions Festival, an event lasting several days that honors advertising professionals. The reason was that the extensive Boulevard de la Croisette was closed for hours, which meant that some people did not get to their events on time.

A month ago, the Olympic flame caused a stir in Cannes. During the Cannes International Film Festival, which was taking place at the time, the torch was ceremoniously raised on the red carpet by Delphine Ernotte (57), President of France Télévisions and the European Broadcasting Union.

Still a long way to go

At the end of April, the Olympic flame was transported from Piraeus to Marseille on board the French three-master “Belem”. The torch still has a long way to go before the 2024 Summer Olympics: The opening ceremony will take place in the French capital Paris on July 26, and the sporting competition with participants from over 150 nations will last until August 11. This will be the third time that the Olympic Games will take place in Paris after 1900 and 1924.
