Halo Infinite: Were you expecting local co-op? We have very bad news for you…

This is a huge disappointment for fans of the franchise. In addition to thecancellation of splitscreen co-op mode, campaign co-op mode, Forge beta and Season 3 have all been pushed backthe studio confirmed in a development update video forHalo Infinite.

New roadmap

The co-op campaign, which was due to launch in August, will now be available in November, just like the open beta of the Forge level editor. Additionally, the game’s third content season, Echoes Within, has been delayed to March 2023.

During a 30-minute update video, Joseph Staten, Head of Creative, Sean Baron, Head of Halo Infinite Live Service, and Brian Jarrard, Community Director discussed the roadmap to come, which extends to June 2023.

Initially, the game’s winter update will roll out from November 8 to March 7 and will include the Forge beta, co-op campaign, and Mission Replay mechanics. This update will also include new maps named Detachment and Argyle.

Custom Match Browser, New Game Modes, and Forge Beta Updates were also announced for this period, which will begin on March 7 and end on June 27.

The following season, “Echoes Within”, will be the third of the game. It will include new weapons, a 100-level battle pass, and new gear.

Halo, was it better before?

343 recently confirmed that the cooperative campaign would not benefit from online matchmaking mechanicswhich means players who don’t have a friend to play with will have to find a teammate themselves through other means.

The news of the cancellation of the cooperative mode in split screens therefore falls like a club for a good number of fans who consider Halo as a game which is almost a “party game”. Many of these players lament that Halo is becoming more competitive than more casual multiplayer.

It should also be noted that this is unfortunately not the first time that 343 Industries has not kept its word to its community.
